Requirements

Renewal Deadline: March 31st

The deadline for completing your education requirements and renewing your license is March 31st. Renewals must be received by the Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) or postmarked by this date.

Avoid delays in license renewal by taking care to properly complete your application. Renewal applications that are not properly filed will be returned to the contractor to be completed.

All license renewal applications are processed in the order received. There are no exceptions.

For additional information about licensing and license renewal, refer to the DLI website http://www.dli.mn.gov/ccld/licverify.asp

Submit License Renewal by March 1st and Avoid Delays

Jan. 1, 2012, a new law requiring the payment of late fees for all DLI license types went into effect. As a result, a late fee of $90 will automatically be assessed when a completed renewal is not received in DLI's offices by the license expiration date of March 31. By law, a completed license renewal submitted by March 1 is automatically deemed to be a timely renewal. DLI cannot guarantee that renewals submitted after March 1 will be processed prior to the expiration date, and a license cannot be considered to be renewed until it is completely processed and approved by DLI. Submit renewals as early as possible to avoid delays and a possible lapse in licensure. After March 31, municipalities cannot issue building permits to contractors whose license renewals have not been processed and approved

Energy Education is Required

Each licensee's qualifying person must, during each reporting period, complete and report one hour of continuing education relating to energy codes or energy conservation measure applicable to residential buildings.

Accreditation

Each course has been submitted pursuant to Minnesota Stat. S326.87 subd. 1 and S82.22 subd. 13 for residential building contractor and remodeler continuing education. Some courses have also been submitted for real estate continuing education. The only course covering the EPA requirement for lead containment training is the Lead-based Paint Renovation, Repair & Painting course.
