Real Estate Appraiser Licensing Requirements
A new Minnesota real property appraiser is required to attend 75 hours of licensing education, pass the state-sponsored licensing exam, and
apply with the Minnesota Department of Commerce for a Trainee Real Property Appraiser license.
Our Trainee Appraiser Series is the licensing series approved in Minnesota. Your 75-hour required education is comprised of two 30-hour courses
and one 15 hour-course known as the Trainee Appraiser Series:

Step 1: Register for your Courses
Refer to the Appraiser Licensing Course Calendar for a list of course dates and locations. Then register
online or contact Kaplan Professional Schools to register for your Trainee Appraiser Series courses. This would also be the time to register for
How to Pass the Trainee Real Property Appraiser Exam.
Step 2: Register for the Exam
PSI administers the Minnesota Trainee, Licensed Residential, Certified Residential, and Certified General exams. A complete list of testing dates
and times is available by visiting www.psiexams.com. You may also contact PSI at 1-800-274-7488.
Step 3: Attend the Trainee Appraiser Series
You must complete the 75-hour Trainee Appraiser Series before taking the exam for Minnesota, North Dakota or South Dakota.
Step 4: Attend the optional How to Pass the Trainee Real Property Appraiser Exam
Allow sufficient time before the exam for this valuable course which is scheduled to immediately follow the Trainee Appraiser Series.
Step 5: Take the Exam
Arrive at the exam site with 2 forms of required identification and your Trainee ppraiser Series course completion certificates from Kaplan Professional Schools.
Step 6: Apply for Your License
Your license application must include your exam results and completion
certificates for the Trainee Appraiser Series courses totaling 75 classroom
hours.
