About the PSI Exam

PSI administers the Minnesota Real Estate Salesperson State & General Examination at 10 Minnesota locations including Edina, Duluth, Lake Elmo, Mankato, Moorhead, Rochester, St. Cloud, Thief River Falls, Winona and Woodbury. The cost to take the exam is $75.00. Please contact PSI at 800-733-9267 or online at www.psiexams.com for additional information regarding available test dates & times.

Exam Registration Procedures

Registration and payment in advance are required. You may register for the exam in one of two ways:

Online Registration: $75

To register online, visit www.psiexams.com and charge the testing fee to your Visa or MasterCard.

Phone Registration: $75

Call PSI at 800-733-9267 Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to register and charge the fee to your Visa or MasterCard.

When should I schedule my exam?

While the test appointments may be made as little as three business days prior to an exam, your chances of getting the date and location of your choice increase the further in advance you register. We recommend scheduling your exam right after registering for Course I to ensure the best date availability.

When should I take my exam?

We encourage students to test within 5 days of completing their classroom training. Additionally, students should give themselves ample time to review classroom materials and complete related assignments. Under ideal circumstances, a student will test 2 to 3 days after they have completed their classroom training. Contact your exam administrator at 800-733-9267 or www.psiexams.com to schedule your exam.

What is the format of the exam?

The exam is multiple-choice, and is divided into two separate portions.

  • The 80-question "General" portion addresses information of a general nature such as contract law, real estate ownership, financing sources, valuation and agency law. You are given 2.5 hours to complete this portion of the exam.
  • The 40-question "State Specific" portion covers information unique to Minnesota, primarily state laws and regulations. You are given 1.5 hours to complete this portion of the exam.

Is it possible to reschedule the exam?

You may cancel and reschedule an examination appointment without forfeiting your fee if your cancellation notice is received 2 days before the scheduled examination date.

Keep in mind that your registration will be invalid, you will not be able to take the examination as scheduled, and you will forfeit your examination fee, if you:

  • Do not cancel your appointment 2 days before the scheduled examination date;
  • Do not appear for your examination appointment;
  • Arrive after examination start time;
  • Do not present proper identification when you arrive for the examination.

What score is needed to pass the exam?

You must earn a score of 75 to pass the exam. If you do not pass the exam on the first try, it is not possible to make a new examination appointment on the same day you have taken an examination; this is due to processing and reporting scores. You must wait one business day before scheduling your next exam.

What should I bring with me to the exam?

  • You must bring with you 2 forms of identification. One must be a VALID form of government-issued identification (Driver's License, State ID, Passport) which bears your signature and has your photograph. The second ID must have your signature and preprinted legal name. All identification provided must match the name on the registration form.
  • Course I Completion Certificate

Candidates who do not present the required items will be denied admission to the examination, considered absent, and will forfeit the examination fee.

When can I expect my exam results?

The exam is administered on a desktop computer system that eliminates the use of paper and pencil answer sheets. Your official score report is delivered immediately upon completion of the exam.

Remember to report your test results

After the exam, remember to call the Kaplan Professional Schools Report Line at 651-523-1001. Or send your test results via email to results@prosource.com.
